Heart Sangha Supports the Children of Cambodia

Sangha! We are looking to activate our community now through November 2026 in our pursuit to support the children of Cambodia. 18 heartlings will travel (AGAIN) to Siem Reap, Cambodia to volunteer at ABCs and Rice School. We are so grateful to bring the love and support of our entire community with us through these fundraising efforts. Heart for Cambodia: The 2025 Results Are In!

​

We are overflowing with gratitude as we share the results of our Heart to Cambodia 2025 fundraising campaign. +We are thrilled to announce that we collectively raised $9,130 from over 350+ generous donors to support ABCs and Rice in Siem Reap!

 

Funding the Dragon Class

​

These funds are designated for the annual support of the Dragon Class, one of seven classes at ABCs and Rice. This group holds a very special place in our hearts, and it is our goal to support these students for years to come. The Dragons are teenagers, ranging from 13 to 15 years old. In this region, this is a critical "tipping point" age. Because they are older, these students are at the highest risk of being pulled out of school to support their families financially through manual labor. Your donations provide the safety net they need to stay in the classroom, ensuring their education remains the priority.

Leadership in Action

​

The Dragons aren't just students; they are the leaders of the school. They are deeply involved in leadership training and take ownership of the campus through initiatives like:

• Environmental Stewardship: Leading campus clean-up and gardening projects.

• Mentorship: Supporting and guiding the younger students in a myriad of ways.

• Academic Growth: They are currently transitioning from intermediate to upper-intermediate English.

 

A Personal Connection

This English proficiency is what allowed our November 2024 retreat attendees to form such deep, personal bonds with them. During our week at the school, it became clear that this is a group of teenagers with immense promise, heart, and ambition. They are the backbone of the school’s culture.

By ensuring the success and retention of the Dragon Class, we are indirectly supporting the entire school and the greater community. When these students thrive, they lift everyone else up with them.

Prior to heading to Cambodia to volunteer, the broader Heart Revival community raised a total of $16,084 through individual donations! The funds traveled far in Cambodia and made a tremendous impact for the staff and students at ABCs and Rice. Read below to hear how our donations impacted the school and see a few photos from our trip. We look forward to our return!

 

Of the $16,387+ raised…

 

• $6500 supports the full cost of the Dragons (senior) class, which includes teacher salary, giving every child the supplies that they need (books, pencils, notebooks etc.) and proving supplies for the classroom teacher

• $2040 will support a foster child for a year

• $200 towards maintenance of the 2 bathrooms

• $800 to reinforce the floors in two of the classrooms

• $620 for photo copying of work books and curriculum development

• $500 towards a new playground - ABCs prioritizes joy & play, in a place children often work

 

That leaves about $6,000 which equates to 8,690 kilos of rice. This rice covers 4 months of “reverse tuition”, an incentive provided by ABCs to families. This program encourages families to continue to send their children to school, rather than to work.
