About The Event
Heart at Home Culinary Day retreat is an invitation to reconnect body and mind through the simple joy that springs from nourishing ourselves and our community. We find that we can slow down and contact joy in the simple act of cutting an onion, shaping a loaf of bread, connecting deeply with each ingredient of a well-crafted recipe. Here we can reclaim the craft of nourishment.
A life infused with mindful craftsmanship is a life infused with care, intention and the desire to become more skillfully connected. The motivation to nourish ourselves and our loved ones creates a ripple that benefits all beings. When we take care of ourselves, we take care of all of us.
Our day starts with intention setting and meditation to center and establish connection. We will then migrate into the kitchen and begin cooking! Throughout the day each participant will make their own loaf of artisanal sourdough, learn essential knife skills, participate in several demonstrations including ingredient selection, understanding recipes and flavor development. Each student will assist in cutting and prepping ingredients for classic chicken soup. We will break for snacks and discuss why mindful cooking is so important and why slowing down in the kitchen is a worthy endeavor. At the end of the day we will all join around the table and enjoy a meal together.
Each participant will leave with a fresh loaf of sourdough, a clone of sourdough starter, enough mirepoix to make a batch of chicken soup, all with a full Heart and belly.
Class is limited to just 6 participants and hosted at the home of Meg and Adam Lucks. Your non-refundable pass is $200. If you cannot make the event, we suggest that you send one lucky buddy in your place.
The day is facilitated by both Dharma Teacher Meg Lucks and classically-trained Chef Adam Lucks. All ingredients are organic and sourced as locally as possible. Snacks and main meal are all diary-free however not completely vegetarian or vegan (you know, chicken soup). A Vegan experience will be offered in the fall!
