About The Event

This four-week (online-livestream and in-person) course explores the ancient teachings of The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali through a modern lens with support of the *text Living the Sutras by Kelly DiNardo and Amy Pearce-Hayden. Amy Pearce-Hayden has been studying yoga philosophy for over thirty years and opened her own school of yoga in 2003. The facilitator of this course, Elias Sol, has been studying yoga philosophy with Amy in Madison, WI since 2019 and has completed his 200- and 500-hour yoga teacher trainings, as well as a six-month long empowered living mentorship, under Amy’s direct guidance at The Raja Hatha School of Yoga.

The Yoga Sutras are a compilation of teachings that serve as a map for how to navigate through the challenges of human life. They contain lessons on how to deal with loss, pain, dissatisfaction, and alienation. They also provide guidance on how to cultivate joy to lead a healthy, happy, and fulfilling life. We will provide you with a copy of Living the Sutras, which includes writing and reflection prompts throughout the interactive text.

As Amy and Kelly preface, ‘Exploring the Sutras doesn’t make you a Buddhist or Hindu. You can practice your own religion or no religion at all. The writing prompts are meant to apply the sutras to your life, within any faith or secular tradition’. We will use this text to guide group discussions and light reading between sessions is suggested.

Each one-and-a-half-hour session will include a short dharma talk, a silent meditation practice, dyad (pairs) practice, and group discussion and reflection.

During the four weeks of the course, you are invited to begin or maintain a regular sitting practice and to keep a practice journal. This will help to inform the discussion during our group sessions. Participants are asked to make a commitment to attend all four sessions and to create space throughout the week for their own personal study and home practice.

The schedule is as follows:

12:00-1:30 PM on April 7, 14, 21, 28

Exchange is $160 total

*A copy of Living the Sutras text included in your enrollment and will be distributed in our first session. If you are attending virtually only, please let us know so we can either send you a book or discount the cost.

Zoom meeting links will be sent in advance. Playback will also be available for a limited time.
